how shoe trees work
Most people are aware of shoe trees as the annoying little pieces of plastic that their brand-new shoes come with.

They stay in the shoe and they’re supposed to keep its shape, like an overpriced hair tie for your shoes. In this article,
we're going to take a look at how shoe trees work and why you might want one for your own shoes.

What exactly do these things do? What do they have to do with keeping my shoes tidy or making them last longer?

Well, there are any number of reasons a pair of used boots can get lumpy or out-of-shape — from scuffs to too tight straps — but when it comes down to it, proper care is always key.

Shoe trees are designed to keep the shape of your shoes. They’re made to bend when you do so, thus keeping your shoes in the best possible shape. The way they work is pretty straightforward: there’s a spring-loaded piece of plastic that connects to a large plastic cap that fits around the heel of your shoe. This places pressure on the bottom section of your shoe and holds it firm, bending and curving as you walk or stand around, while also helping softly flex the rest of your shoe back into shape during wear.
Want proof? There’s a video on YouTube that demonstrates how shoe trees work (obviously, this method isn't for everyone). Watch it.
